The Cuixart Foundation kicks off the commemoration of the centenary of Modest Cuixart with the inauguration of the exhibition "Xavier González. Dialogue with Cuixart", which will take place on Saturday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at the Espai Cuixart in Palafrugell .
This exhibition is the first in a series of activities that will run until December 2026 to remember the legacy of one of the most prominent figures of the Catalan artistic avant-garde. Fleeing traditional commemorations, the Dissident Centenary aims to reclaim Cuixart's memory from creative freedom, emotional memory and the transformative capacity of art. The artist Xavier González, with a career marked by conceptual depth and a vision that integrates disciplines such as physics, metaphysics and ethics, maintained a close friendship and artistic complicity with Cuixart from 2002 until the last months of his life. Their meetings in places such as Cadaqués, Peralada and Palafrugell consolidated a deep and fruitful bond.
About him, Modest Cuixart wrote: “Xavier González has at the root of his own work a profound conception of nature, physics, metaphysics, ethics and aesthetics, man, fitting everything together with the same forcefulness that the great Greek classics brought to philosophy and art.”
Now, his creations are once again in dialogue. This exhibition represents a visual encounter between two artistic sensibilities that shared a poetic and nonconformist vision of reality. The opening event will also feature a conversation between Xavier González and Ricard Planas , director of bonart and a great expert on Cuixart's career. This talk will offer attendees an opportunity to delve into the painter's universe through shared memories, reflections and experiences.
