Clàudia Elies Oliveras, new director for Fabra i Coats
With an outstanding track record in management and curation, he comes with the challenge of strengthening local connections and opening up new international perspectives.
Clàudia Elies Oliveras will take over the reins of the Fabra i Coats Contemporary Art Centre from May. With a career that combines cultural management, curating and artistic dynamism, she arrives with the desire to strengthen the centre's links with the local scene, while maintaining an open view of the international arena. Her proposal aims to support artists at different points in their careers and foster an intergenerational dialogue within the artistic landscape.
The decision was made, from among 46 candidates, by a jury formed by professionals in the sector such as Elvira Dyangani Ose and Eduard Vicente from MACBA , Eva Sòria and Oriol Martí from ICUB , as well as figures such as Martí Anson , Martí Manen and Ruth Estévez Gómez . Their choice responds to the need to consolidate the center as a reference space for the production and dissemination of contemporary art, with an approach that includes emerging and consolidated artists.

Elies Oliveras comes to the position after a period leading the ART NOU Festival and coordinating the visual arts program of Can Felipa . She has developed numerous curatorial and content editing projects, highlighting her participation in the exhibition Sumari Astral, currently hosted by the Fundació Joan Brossa - Centre de les Arts Lliures . She has also been a promoter of initiatives such as Al Llindar, a collaboration between Can Felipa and the Poblenou Neighborhood Association that has linked art with the social concerns of the neighborhood.
With academic training in art history from the University of Barcelona and the Università degli Studi di Bologna, as well as a master's degree in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London, Elies Oliveras arrives with a solid foundation to lead this new stage of the center. His incorporation coincides with a moment of transformation for Fabra i Coats, in which the support of ICUB and MACBA must serve to give a definitive boost to its consolidation. This space, dedicated to the research, production and dissemination of contemporary artistic practices, wants to continue strengthening its role in the metropolitan scene and in the international context, betting on new creative languages and a closer link with the citizens.
