The Centre Pompidou Málaga celebrates its tenth anniversary, consolidating itself as a cultural reference in the city, and does so by hosting the exhibition Wassily Kandinski, pioneer of abstract art, a retrospective dedicated to one of the most influential artists of modern art. The exhibition brings together 47 paintings and a video, all of which belong to the collection of the Centre Pompidou - Musée National d'art moderne in Paris , thanks to donations from his widow, Nina Kandinski .

The exhibition, curated by Angela Lampe and open to the public until September, allows visitors to retrace the career of the Russian artist through five chapters that illustrate his evolution from figuration to abstraction. His style began to be defined with his move to Munich in 1896, where he was inspired by Jugendstil (art nouveau) and began to develop his own pictorial language. In 1911, with the publication of De lo espiritual en el arte, he established the theoretical foundations of abstraction. After the October Revolution, he participated in the reorganization of Russian cultural institutions, but remained faithful to his aesthetic vision. At the Bauhaus (1922-1933), Kandinsky explored geometric precision and experimented with new forms until the rise of Nazism. His last years in Paris were marked by the Surrealist influence and the fusion of geometric abstraction and symbolism. Although today it is recognized that the origins of abstraction are multiple, the artist's decisive contribution to the idea of an "autonomous" art, freed from any reference to the outside world, is valued both in his theoretical work and in his role as instigator, editor and teacher.
