Ezequiel Torroella and his Costa Brava

On April 4th, the opening of the exhibition Ezequiel Torroella, deeply in love with his Costa Brava will take place at the Capella del Carme in Palamós . The exhibition invites visitors to take a pictorial journey through the Costa Brava through the works of this renowned local artist.

Ezequiel Torroella i Mató (Palamós, 1921-1998) dedicated his career to capturing the beauty of the landscape, the seas and the most emblematic corners of Palamós and the Costa Brava. His work, of a figurative nature and impressionist inspiration, stands out for the intensity of color, the atmospheric effects and the naturalistic points of view. Torroella carried out an almost documentary task, on the one hand, and one of discovery on the other, in order to paint corners and places that the people of the territory identify as their own and that outsiders perceive as idyllic spaces.

In 2008, a significant set of his work was donated to the Palamós City Council and is currently on display in the Capella del Carme, where the public can discover his ability to play with shapes, color and light. This exhibition is part of the actions to remember and disseminate the figure of the Palamós painter, among which the Ezequiel Torroella Art Biennial also stands out . This initiative aims to promote artistic creation in the field of visual arts, promote the work of young creators and perpetuate the legacy of an artist who knew how to capture the soul of the Costa Brava.
