Barcelona is preparing to host, from October 22 to 24, one of the most prestigious meetings in the field of museology and the preservation of cultural heritage: The Best in Heritage. This will be the first time that the event has moved outside of Croatia since its creation in 2003, consolidating the Catalan capital as a global reference in this sector.
The organization of this edition has the collaboration of the Generalitat of Catalonia. Catalonia , through the Department of Culture ; Barcelona City Council , through the Barcelona Institute of Culture ; and the “la Caixa” Foundation . In addition, the event marks the return to the in-person format after several editions held online as a result of the pandemic.
The conferences will take place in spaces such as CaixaForum Barcelona , the Born Centre for Culture and Memory and the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) , turning these facilities into meeting points for experts and professionals in the sector.

The event will feature the participation of 200 professionals from around the world and the presentation of 42 projects awarded during 2024 with prestigious international recognitions. In the previous edition, the selected initiatives had received awards from institutions such as the European Museum Academy, the Chinese Museums Association, the Council of Europe, UNESCO or the American Alliance of Museums. Among the outstanding projects this year, it is worth mentioning the Gabriel García Márquez library in Barcelona, recognized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) as the best public library of 2023.
In addition to the talks and presentations, the closing day will be marked by the announcement of the winners of the Project of Influence awards, which recognize the most innovative and influential museums and projects of the year. These distinctions are divided into two categories: IMAGINES, intended for initiatives that make use of digital and multimedia technologies, and Best in Heritage, which encompasses projects of great impact and international recognition.

A platform to promote excellence in cultural management
The Best in Heritage is a non-governmental organization based in Zagreb (Croatia), dedicated to promoting excellence in cultural heritage management. Professor Tomislav S. Šola, director and chairman of the advisory board, has been a key figure in consolidating this project. The event is held under the patronage of Europa Nostra and the International Council of Museums (ICOM), and becomes a reference space for the dissemination of good practices, the promotion of innovation and networking.
The choice of Barcelona as the host city for this year's edition not only underlines its cultural and museum prestige, but also offers a unique opportunity to showcase the rich artistic and historical heritage of the city and Catalonia to an international audience.
