Tribute to Roser Bru: one alone is nothing
bonart girona - 24/02/25

The Girona Art Museum inaugurates the exhibition One Alone Is Nothing, a plastic tribute to Roser Bru (Barcelona, 1923 - Santiago de Chile, 2021), a collective exhibition created by nine students of the La Madriguera workshop, directed by the artist Paula Bonet (Vila-real, 1980).

The exhibition brings together a total of 36 works of different formats and styles, created by nine international artists who have worked from the study and reinterpretation of Bru's work. These pieces not only pay homage to his career, but also establish a dialogue between two generations of artists and two geographies connected by creation: Taller 99 in Santiago de Chile, a printmaking workshop founded by Nemesio Antúnez in 1956 where Bru developed much of his production, and La Madriguera in Barcelona, a space for creation, training and experimentation founded by Bonet in 2018. Inspired by the philosophy of the Chilean Taller 99, this space is exclusively for women and is based on collaborative and horizontal work.

Through this experience, the artists have been able to delve deeper into Bru's techniques, but they have also contributed their personal perspective, creating works that speak of memory, identity and female advocacy in art. The participating artists have been María José Bannen , Josefina Carvalho , Vanina Fernández , Diana Gaviño , Noel de León , Laura Medina , Minú Rao , Anaís Vaillant and Milena Vodanovic . Each of them has created a work that reflects not only their personal trajectory, but also their connection with Bru's work. The exhibition, which can be visited until March 30, will also include several parallel activities, such as special guided tours, engraving workshops inspired by Roser Bru's technique and round tables with the participating artists. In addition, a catalogue will be presented with texts by Paula Bonet and other specialists in Bru's work, who will delve into his influence on contemporary art.

The Museu d'Art de Girona has wanted to highlight the importance of this exhibition as part of its commitment to the visibility of female talent in the visual arts and the recovery of key figures in the history of art. Una de sola no és res is an alternative journey through Bru's artistic creation and its impact on several generations, while reflecting on the role of women in art and the need to create networks of support and collaboration.
