Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma celebrates its 21st anniversary with a renewed commitment to painting, presenting four solo exhibitions and a permanent space dedicated to its collection. This new exhibition cycle offers an international perspective with a look rooted in local reality, highlighting key figures in contemporary art and opening new avenues of dialogue on the role of painting today.

The artistic proposals presented include works by Jessica Stockholder , Eugenio Dittborn and José Fiol , as well as the collective exhibition 'Nachleben. Painting as conceptual art'. Each project explores different dimensions of pictorial language, from its expansion into other disciplines to its capacity to generate new conceptual discourses. The collective exhibition constitutes the first part of a curatorial trilogy that analyzes painting as a means of reflection and conceptual experimentation. Through pieces from the Es Baluard Collection and other collections, such as the recent deposit of the Barrié Foundation , the exhibition proposes a transversal reading of the recent history of contemporary art, focused on conceptual painting.

Jessica Stockholder , one of the most influential artists in the field of expanded painting, comes to Es Baluard with 'Punts cardinals', an exhibition that breaks down the barriers between painting, sculpture and architecture. Her practice is characterized by the incorporation of everyday objects into compositions that challenge the traditional notion of the pictorial frame.

For his part, the Mallorcan José Fiol proposes 'The Green Fog', a project that interconnects cinema, sport and collective memory through the cut-up technique. Taking as a starting point the 1975 Wimbledon final, and the cinematic reinterpretation of Vertigo (1958) in Guy Maddin's experimental film The Green Fog, Fiol constructs a visual narrative that invites us to rethink the relationship between image and history. With a career marked by the reconfiguration of visual archives, the artist proposes a critical review of the images that shape our perception of the past and that leads to new interpretations and contemporary discourses.

Finally, Eugenio Dittborn presents 'Airmail Paintings', a selection of works that have earned him international recognition since the 1980s. These pieces, conceived to be sent by mail and exhibited at various latitudes, challenge the physical limits of painting and question the concept of displacement and circulation of the work of art. This is the first major solo exhibition of the Chilean artist in the State, consolidating his legacy in the context of Latin American conceptual art.

In addition to these exhibitions, Es Baluard recovers a permanent space dedicated to its collection, located on the main floor of the museum. This new exhibition area will allow us to revisit works by key figures such as Mir , Sorolla , Blanchard , Léger , Miró , Tàpies , Barceló , Uslé or Miram Cahn , joined by names such as Ángela de la Cruz , Fiona Rae or Shinique Smith .
