New call for the artistic direction of the Bòlit

Girona City Council is opening a new call for applications to select the artistic director of the Bòlit – Contemporary Art Centre , with the aim of finding a new director to lead the centre for a period of four years, extendable for two more. The deadline for submitting applications is 30 January, and a senior management contract is being offered. The requirements for this position include a university degree or bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years' experience in the world of art centres, museums or cultural facilities, including tasks of coordination or management of work teams.

This process begins after the announcement of Íngrid Guardiola , current director of the Bòlit since 2021, that she has decided not to run for re-election. Guardiola announced on social media that her term will end on May 1 and that she will not renew the two-year contract she had planned. In her post, she added that she would not opt for the new call, clarifying that she had not accepted the extension of her contract. Guardiola replaced Carme Sais in 2021, who had directed the center since 2013.

El Bòlit is a municipally owned cultural space, with the support of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya since its creation in 2008. The center has consolidated itself as a space dedicated to the creation, production, dissemination and education in the field of contemporary art, with a focus on internationalization and innovation. In addition to artistic direction, the position includes a series of technical and administrative responsibilities, such as managing the facilities and the budget, searching for new sources of funding and coordinating with other cultural facilities in the city and the Visual Arts Spaces of Catalonia system. Regarding programming, the management must guarantee a range of activities that align with the center's lines of work, with the aim of consolidating it as a reference in the local and international cultural scene.

Recently, the Bòlit presented the program of exhibitions and activities planned for 2025, a set of proposals that will continue to make the center a key place for contemporary art in Girona. The management of the Bòlit, therefore, will be tasked with continuing to promote this line of work and ensuring that the center continues to be a driving force for contemporary culture in the city and its regions.
