Next Sunday, December 1, the second season of the INCLASSIFIABLES podcast, presented by Ricard Planas and David Escamilla , premieres its sixth episode on the 3CAT (Catalunya Ràdio) platform. In this chapter, they will talk from the Miguel Marcos gallery with the unclassifiable Mallorcan creator Bernardí Roig , a restless mind with international projection and with Miguel Marcos , with whom they will discover some of the borders between collecting and gallerism.
What does it mean to make art in a world saturated with images and information? Bernardí Roig is clear about this and his work is a visceral response to technological hypercommunication. It tells us about a visual world full of shadows and silence, where sound is a more powerful call than words. Through his sculptures and images, he shows us the difficulty of expressing ourselves, the simulacrum of reality and the feeling of isolation, despite living in a "technological rococo" that promises us constant proximity.
For Miguel Marcos , director of the gallery that bears his name, gallerism is both a bet for emerging talent and a path full of challenges. Digitalization and globalization have overturned traditional structures. Galleries, as we know them, struggle to maintain their function in this new context. The artist is the creative engine, but the gallerist is the mediator who allows this art to find its place. But what future awaits galleries in a society that seems to prioritize the immediacy of a screen over the physical experience of art?
From the fascination with the phantasmagorical dimension of life to the introspection about loneliness as a creative engine, this episode of UNCLASSIFIABLES starts from these reflections to invite us to explore the role of art and collecting in an era where silence seems ever more elusive. Can we still find spaces of authenticity in such an overwhelming visual universe? And what role do galleries play in this search?
