The Can Basté Civic Center is preparing to host the 18th edition of its Photographic Forum , an event that, beyond being a photography exhibition, becomes for five days a space for reflection, dialogue and collaboration on contemporary photography .
From tomorrow, November 26, until Sunday 30, the Can Basté Civic Center in Nou Barris will be the center of a celebration that combines art, pedagogy and activism. This year's motto, 'What is seen, is voice', claims the power of the image to highlight issues that are often silenced and generate dialogues that go beyond the photographic realm.
The forum will begin with three exhibitions that reflect the variety of views that define it. In Sala Cava, Lúa Ribeira presents 'Agony in the garden', a project that explores current youth movements with a perspective that unites the past and the present. In Sala Golfes, David Garcerán and AHRNB propose 'La pintada', a photographic series that claims urban memory through the expressions of protest visible in the streets of Nou Barris. In the Vestibule, 'El Saló' will be exhibited, a collective exhibition of more than a hundred photographers to denounce the lack of exhibition spaces for visual creators.

The Can Basté Photographic Forum has also established itself as a support platform for emerging artists thanks to the creation grants that, this year, will award an exhibition proposal for the Sala Cava and another for a publication with the Handshake publisher. The jury, made up of experts in photography, includes Érika Goyarrola , curator and teacher with experience in institutions such as Fundació la Caixa and the UOC; Pau Coll , photographer specialized in social projects; Roser Cambray , coordinator of the National Photography Plan and member of the MNAC Photography Department; Israel Ariño , artist and editor at Ediciones Anómalas; Lucía Boned , co-founder of the publishing house Terranova; and Jaime Sebastián and Rubén Montesinos , founders of the Handshake studio, focused on graphic and editorial design.
Initiatives such as the Forum-Connecta and the Forum-Sembra complement the program with spaces that promote interaction between emerging artists and professionals in the sector, as well as dialogue between photographic groups and the new generations, offering practical tools to devise and start projects . Also part of the program will be round tables and conferences such as 'Photographers on the periphery' or the presentation of the creative process of 'Agony in the garden', which will deal with topics such as urban inequalities, historical recreation or the role of photography as social reporting tool. On the other hand, the talk 'El 47. Recreate an image' will show the process of visual reconstruction that Marta Bazaco, Jordi Bernal and Raúl Arranz have carried out to contextualize Marcel Barrena 's film.
The program is completed with a historical tour of Nou Barris linked to the 'La pintada' exhibition, family activities and a popular lunch in Plaça de Can Basté. This forum, which is already a benchmark for photography in Barcelona, reflects Can Basté's work as a cultural and social engine in the Turó de la Peira neighborhood, thanks to its continued collaboration with neighbors, groups and associations .
