The second edition of the Biennale of Contemporary Ceramics of Bisbal d'Empordà, organized by the Associació de Ceramistes and the Ajuntament de la Bisbal, took place this past weekend. This year's edition presented two major aspects: an academic and an exhibition, offering a program that combined technical depth and a diverse sample of contemporary ceramic creations.

The academic part of the biennial offered debates of great interest, among which one on the application of ceramics in architecture, a growing area within the sector, stood out. In addition, round tables were organized with the participation of prominent professionals and experts in ceramics, design and contemporary art.

As for the exhibition part, thirty artists, coming from Catalonia and France, exhibited unique pieces that showed the evolution of contemporary ceramics. These works, marked by creativity and innovation. More than a thousand people visited the exhibition, evidencing the growing interest in this discipline and confirming the success of this second edition.

The closing of the biennial took place on Sunday with the presentation of the Biennial Terracotta Prize, which was awarded to ceramist Núria Gimbernat. The jury in charge of selecting the winner was made up of Jordi Marcet (Associació de Ceramistes de Catalunya), Joan Vila-Clara (Associació de Ceramistes de la Bisbal), Ricard Planas (director of Bonart), Claudi de José (ceramist) and Xavier Rocks (director of the Terracotta Museum).

Núria Gimbernat is characterized by working on her pieces both manually and with a lathe, using materials that allow her to explore textures and contrasts between light and shadow, as well as the relationship between void and matter. This combination creates pieces with a unique aesthetic, light and ethereal.

Looking to the future, the organization of the biennale aims to expand the scope of the exhibition, attract a more diverse audience and consolidate the biennale as an international benchmark in contemporary ceramics. From the organization, they emphasize the desire to turn the event into a reference platform not only at the local level, but globally, for professionals in the sector and reaffirm the Terracotta Museum as a reference space for contemporary ceramics.
