Alberto García-Alix: the guest artist
One of the great attractions of this year's edition is the participation of Alberto García-Alix as a guest artist. This photographer, born in León in 1956, is recognized as one of the most important portraitists on the Spanish and international artistic scene. With a direct and at the same time elegant style, García-Alix has developed a career marked by his ability to transform his personal experiences into art. His photographs, charged with strength and emotion, immortalized the generation of the Movida Madrileña of the 80s, an era of transgression and creative freedom that left a deep mark on his work.
García-Alix's work is fueled by excesses, fears and intense emotions, offering a visual testimony of a life that has been both an artistic pursuit and an exploration of the human condition. His first major retrospective exhibition took place in 1998 during the first edition of PhotoEspaña, where he achieved public and critical recognition.
From 2022, the Albarrán Bourdais gallery, based in Madrid and Menorca, represents García-Alix, who recently presented the exhibition 'Mi tiempo y su futuro' with great success. His work is part of the collections of such prestigious institutions as the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía National Museum and the Prado Museum in Spain, as well as the Fonds Nationales d'Art Contemporain (France) and the Deutsche Börse collection (Germany).
In this edition of ESTAMPA, a series of photographs created especially for the occasion will be presented, which reflect García-Alix's unique view of reality and his ability to tell stories with a combination of rawness and sensitivity.
