Poster competition for the Procession of Virgins 2025

The Procession of Virgins Association, a non-profit organization committed to the preservation and organization of the Holy Thursday Procession of Virgins , has launched the first edition of a poster competition for the 2025 event. This celebration, recognized as a Heritage Festival of National Interest, is one of the town's most deeply rooted traditions and includes such iconic elements as the Dance of Death. The association, in addition to coordinating the procession and related activities, aims to guarantee the continuity of this cultural heritage and promote its relevance through new artistic formats.

With this competition, the association offers the artists of the Catalan Countries the possibility of reinterpreting key aspects of the procession, thus giving added value to the promotional poster. The works must be original, not previously exhibited or winners of other competitions, and must represent emblematic elements such as the Dance of Death or other significant moments of the tradition.

Registrations are open until November 10, 2024, and can be submitted through the association's official website. Finalists will be notified by email and must submit the works in their original format by November 25. All the selected creations will be exhibited at Ca la Rosa, from December 1st to January 1st, and the winner will receive a prize of €2,000, with the work forming part of the association's heritage fund.

The jury, composed of Assumpció Mateu, Ferran Vidal, Gloria Bosch Mir, Lluís Puig Coll and Toni Álvarez de Arana, will assess the proposals according to their originality and their relationship with tradition. This initiative consolidates Verges as a cultural reference, creating a dialogue between contemporary art and local heritage, and projecting the Empordà as a center of artistic creation within the Catalan Countries.
