Espai 29 in Corçà opens its doors to an exhibition that connects Japan and Catalonia. The trio Komoma, formed by the Japanese artist Satoshi Komatsubara, the also Japanese Megumi Mochizuki, and the Catalan Edgar Massegú, presents an exhibition where paper, with its textures and possibilities, becomes the protagonist and vehicle to express contemporary art from tradition.

Komoma's works move between delicacy and visual force. Satoshi Komatsubara , known for his work with Chinese ink on Japanese paper, contributes pieces full of detail and precision, where the stroke seems to want to escape the limits of the sheet. Megumi Mochizuki , with the ancestral technique of papercutting, creates large paper curtains, cut with surprising detail. Finally, Edgar Massegú , with his paper sculptures that evoke luminous corals, offers a poetic vision full of light that has already been recognized internationally.

This exhibition opens on Saturday, October 12 , and is part of a wider project of Espai 29 , an emerging cultural center in the Empordà that aspires to become a point of reference for the contemporary art During the weekend of the exhibition, from October 11 to 13, parallel activities will take place such as origami family workshops, Japanese calligraphy, and a Japanese percussion performance that will close the exhibition .

Komoma: Satoshi, Megumi and Massegú Satoshi Komatsubara (2021)

The Komoma trio was born last year during Edgar Massegú's artistic residency in Japan, where he collaborated with Satoshi and Megumi on several projects. Since then, the three artists have worked together, weaving a dialogue between East and West, exploring the possibilities of paper as an artistic medium. On this occasion, in addition to the exhibition, they will also carry out artistic actions in spaces such as Gla Empordà (La Bisbal d'Empordà) and Hilarium (Cardedeu), visiting traditional paper mills, continuing their research to integrate the artisan heritage with the contemporary creation.

Megumi Mochizuki , born in Yokohama in 1978 and currently residing in Kyoto, has dedicated her career to recreating Asian mythologies and legends in monumental installations, many of them made in historic buildings in Japan. For his part, Satoshi Komatsubara , from Nara, has exhibited from a young age in renowned galleries and is known for his mastery of drawing, with a work that explores new ways to combine paint and stroke. Edgar Massegú , with an expanding international career, has taken his Landart World Tour to different continents, and at the end of this year he will carry out projects in New York, Italy, India and Dubai.

Komoma will allow you to get to know the work of these three artists, united by their passion for paper and their ability to make it speak in different artistic languages.
