At the Terrassa Cultural Factory, stones come to life in the form of art. It is in this space that Donato Savin, a sculptor born in Cogne, in the Aosta Valley, presents a hundred pieces that explore the landscape and the soul of the rocks. His work is a tribute to the untamed nature of the Italian Alps, a fusion between matter and spirit that Savin manages to convey with captivating precision.
The exhibition, entitled 'Donato Savin and the soul of the stones', opened the autumn exhibition season at LaFACT in September. Until October 26, rooms 3 and 4 host his sculptures, witnesses to the mineral wealth and the landscape that surrounds the artist. Each piece seems to be an extension of the rock he has worked with: basalt, travertine, onyx, malachite or quartz, materials to which Savin gives a new identity, a new life.
Donato Savin is not only a sculptor, but a deep observer of nature, someone who captures the secret language of stones and turns it into art. His work has toured Europe, exhibited in galleries and museums, where he has received the admiration and recognition of the public and critics. However, his artistic production is not easy to categorize within a single artistic movement. Some of his creations can be associated with the new expressionist figuration, where form takes on recognizable references, but others clearly move towards abstraction or informalism, where matter is the only protagonist. This stylistic diversity enriches the discourse of his work and invites the viewer to establish a personal dialogue with each piece.
In a small corner of the Alps, in the village of Epinel, Savin finds his inspiration in the mountains that surround him. This landscape, full of atavistic forces, has marked his bond with nature and craftsmanship since his youth. His participation in the millenary Fira de Sant'Orso, in the city of Aosta, was the starting point for an artistic career that now reaches Terrassa, loaded with meaning and memory.
In Savin's words, art is a continuous conversation with the environment, an exploration of the dualities that define existence: strength and fragility, time and eternity, nature and human creation. The Cultural Factory of Terrassa thus becomes the meeting point for this dialogue, offering the possibility of living an experience in which the stone ceases to be cold and distant to transform into an emissary of emotions.
