Workshop by Nicholas Nixon at KBr Fundación MAPFRE: registration open until October 6

KBr Fundación MAPFRE de Barcelona has opened registrations for a new edition of its workshop program 'Get Real! Abre los ojos!)', which this year will feature the prominent participation of Nicholas Nixon, recognized as one of the great international photographers of recent decades. This workshop, entitled 'The fine line of portraiture' , will take place from November 21 to 23 and will focus on photographic portraiture, a field in which Nixon has excelled with deeply emotional and personal works.

The author is known for iconic works such as the series 'The Brown Sisters' which portrays four sisters over the course of almost fifty years, creating a visual narrative about the passage of time and the human condition. In addition, other projects such as 'People with AIDS' have also been fundamental to his career, dealing with issues of vulnerability and illness with incomparable sensitivity. Through his photographs, Nixon delves into human relationships and the power of empathy, making the portrait a vehicle for intense and profound expression.

The workshop will offer participants an approach to the practice of photographic portraiture from Nixon's perspective, addressing not only the technical issues, but also the relationship between the photographer and the subject. Aspects such as the selection of the subject, narrative intentions and subtlety in dealing with the portrayed will be worked on. Participants will have the opportunity to put into practice the concepts learned during the fieldwork, which will include daily reviews to create an open dialogue about the group's results and impressions.

This intensive experience will include an opening talk on 20 November at 7pm, where Nicholas Nixon will talk about 'The Art of Portraiture: Looking Closely and Carefully', offering a deeper insight into his creative process and his philosophy of work The talk will be both face-to-face and online.
