Josep Miàs, an architect with a recognized career, has been named Banyolí of the Year, an award that not only rewards his excellent architectural career, but also the deep bond he maintains with his native land. In the ceremony, held last Friday 20 September in the Auditorium of the Ateneo de Banyoles, Miàs' talent and dedication were honored, in an event that brought together a community that has seen both the person and the creator

This award, the result of popular support, highlights the career of an architect who has broken boundaries with an innovative and sustainable vision. One of his most significant projects is the adaptation of the Old Quarter of Banyoles, where he transformed the space into a pedestrian area, contributing to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants.

Known for his ability to bring new perspectives to architecture, Miàs integrates advanced technology and innovative materials in his projects. His innovative and experimental proposals stand out in particular, where he fuses social, cultural, historical and economic aspects with rigorous research into the form, technology and structural behavior of buildings. In addition, experimentation with new materials and his research into sustainability are distinctive features of his work, offering original solutions adapted to contemporary needs.

Thanks to this multidisciplinary approach, his studio, MIAS Architects, is recognized internationally, not only for the uniqueness of its designs, but also for the incorporation of new technological means in the world of architecture. His works have been exhibited in such prestigious institutions as the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris and the MOMA in New York.

Apart from the Old Town of Banyoles, other emblematic projects include the Mercat de la Barceloneta and the reform of the Tibidabo Amusement Park. Miàs has also signed outstanding works such as the headquarters of iGuzzini Illuminazione HQ in Barcelona, which combines design and sustainability, and the 22@ Plug-in Building, located in the technological district of the city, an example of a flexible and functional building.

In June 2024, Josep Miàs was recognized as an Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects, one of the highest recognitions worldwide, consolidating his position as one of the most influential architects of the moment.

During the Banyolí of the Year award ceremony, other local entities and companies were also recognized. The Associació de Pessebristes de Banyoles was highlighted for its work in preserving the Christmas tradition, while the company Astech Food received the award for its innovation in the food sector. Finally, the Enserio design studio was awarded for its social commitment. These recognitions reflect the diversity and richness of the cultural and economic fabric of Banyoles.
