On September 20, 'O son do mar', an exhibition by Mayte Vieta, opens at the Galician Center for Contemporary Art (CGAC). This exhibition is conceived as a refuge from the outside world, expressing a complex form of happiness that mixes fullness and escape. The immense nature generates in the viewer a mixture of serenity and melancholy, which caresses and at the same time oppresses. The landscapes presented by Vieta are sublime, where the boundaries between the individual and nature are blurred. These works unite presence and absence, evoking the oscillating sound of the sea between silence and the eternal resonance of the tides.
'O son do mar' becomes a reflection on fragility, loneliness, the passage of time, memory and the search for happiness, inviting the viewer to a deep introspection. With an intimate and introspective art, Vieta reconstructs the inner world of those who contemplate his work, guiding them towards a connection with their own interiority.
Mayte Vita
Born in Blanes (Girona), she is a visual artist who uses space and light as means of expression, fusing photography, sculpture and installation. Through his work, he reflects on the contradictions inherent in the human experience, mixing opposites such as gravity and weightlessness, or calm and tragedy, to create dreamlike atmospheres that often seem to suspend time and space. Vieta often uses large-format photographs, landscapes that are "non-places", abstract spaces and dark environments that lack concrete references, evoking feelings of timelessness and fragility. His work emphasizes the body and nature, two constants that become reflections of the human soul, and is imbued with a deep aesthetic charge that seeks beauty as a form of connection with the viewer's interior.
Since its emergence in the 90s, Vieta has developed an outstanding career, with exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Her ability to create works that dialogue with the viewer's subconscious has made her a key figure in the contemporary art scene.
