7th Edition of the Art & Gavarres Festival
bonart girona - 14/09/24

From last September 7 and until November 3, 2024, the Gavarres massif will once again become a meeting point for art and nature with the celebration of the seventh edition of the Art & Gavarres International Festival . This unique event seeks to fuse contemporary art with the landscape, creating a space where artists from all over the world create ephemeral works that dialogue with the natural environment using organic materials.

Organized by the Consorci de les Gavarres, with the collaboration of the Bòlit, Contemporary Art Center of Girona, and several local councils, this festival has become a reference in the field of art in the landscape .

The municipalities of Girona, Celrà, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera, Vall-llobrega and Llofriu will be the settings for the different artistic interventions. With a total of sixteen outdoor installations, the public will have the opportunity to explore these natural spaces while encountering works that integrate harmoniously with the landscape, thus rediscovering the Gavarres massif in through the eyes of the artists.

The Art & Gavarres Festival is not only a platform for artistic creation, but also a space where culture and nature intertwine in a continuous dialogue. The curator of the festival, Oriol Granyer, emphasizes the importance of "placing the artists in the middle of nature and away from the exhibition halls", thus creating a unique and intimate experience for the visitor. Granyer emphasizes that, unlike other festivals, this one does not impose schedules or surveillance, giving the public the freedom to tour the works at any time of the day.

The legends of the Gavarres, the common thread of this edition

This seventh edition focuses on an element deeply rooted in popular culture: the legends and beliefs that have surrounded the Gavarres massif over the centuries. These ancient stories serve as a source of inspiration for artists, who have created works that explore the myths and narratives that have connected people to nature.

The artists participating in this edition work with natural materials such as wood, wicker, raffia or branches, creating installations that blend into the landscape.

One of the distinctive features of the Art & Gavarres Festival is the ephemeral nature of the works on display. All installations are designed so that, over time, nature itself absorbs them and erases any trace of artistic intervention.

Parallel activities

In addition to the artistic installations, the festival includes a series of parallel activities of a scenic nature. Last September 4, the artist Pep Aymerich presented the show 'Chair' in the courtyard of the House of Culture of the Diputació de Girona, where he transformed live a trunk into a chair.

On September 14, the Sant Daniel valley will host the show 'Underground', an innovative proposal by Moon Ribas and Quim Girón, which fuses disciplines such as circus, dance and digital arts.

With seven editions held, the Art & Gavarres Festival has established itself as a key platform in the world of artistic creation linked to the landscape and unlike other mass festivals, it offers an intimate experience that encourages disconnection and contemplation.
