The Visual Arts Center of the Joan Brossa Foundation has presented the 2024-2025 season, which will run from September to June. This new season invites the public to explore the limits of contemporary art and creation with a program rich in innovative activities, shows and exhibitions.

Inspired by Joan Brossa, the Foundation seeks to question how we construct the reality around us, breaking with the logical relationships of space and time. Through an expansive imagination, the programming aspires to create other realities and promote an artistic community that perpetuates a "Brossa attitude" of transgression and creativity.

In this season, paratheatricality is reformulated, combining the scene with other cultural areas such as thought (through performative conferences), gastronomy (with performative meals) and heritage (with the Exorcisms project). This hybridization allows exploring new forms of artistic expression and challenging rigid labels.

Shows that bet on rupture and experimentation

This year's show season stands out for its determined commitment to break with traditional theatrical conventions. One of the central axes is the Exorcismes cycle, which explores the legacy of Joan Brossa through new forms of performativity.

Marta Pazos will present 'Astral', an immersive experience in which a medium will connect with the astral plane to bring this energy to the stage, creating a space where reality and spirituality merge. In addition, Alberto Cortés will premiere 'Sempre vengo de noche (Live Set)', a piece that challenges the boundaries between theater and sound experimentation, seeking direct interaction with the audience and supernatural elements.

This programming line, which combines heritage and performance, will close with a live performance by Raül Refree in June. His sonic approach to Brossa's legacy promises to offer a new vision of the poet's poetic world through musical experimentation.

The IF Barcelona Festival , in its tenth edition, will consolidate the Joan Brossa Foundation as an epicenter of visual theater with an innovative and provocative program. Among the highlights of the festival will be the visual show 'Thauma' by La Mula, which offers a unique sensory experience, and 'Cera: 500 hours of flight' by Carlos Gallardo, winner of the Hermann Bonnín 2023 call, which combines elements theatrical with a captivating visual narrative. You will also be able to see 'El conspirador (or conspiradora)' by Marc Villanueva and Gerard Valverde, which transforms a board game into a psychomagical ritual where viewers actively participate in the creative process.

Other productions that will complement the season include performances by Juana Dolores with 'HIT ME IF I'M PRETTY o la princessa moderna' and 'Estoy aquí pero no soy yo' by Adriano Galante. In addition, Neus Masdeu will present his performative food 'Seitons Masdeu Hola i Adeu', while Marc O'Callaghan will direct a traveling rave to the rhythm of machine music through various chapels in the Born.

Exhibitions with reinterpretations of the past and current challenges

This season's exhibitions explore both Joan Brossa's legacy and contemporary issues related to current social problems. One of the central exhibitions is 'Joan Brossa. The mental sensation of complete happiness', curated by Anna Llopis. This exhibition offers a deep immersion in the poetic and artistic universe of Brossa, allowing visitors to discover the multiple facets of the creator, from his poetry to his stage interventions.

Another relevant proposal is 'Today while I was coming I was told that there are no more left', by Helena Calafell, Alba Carretero and Anna Vilamú. This exhibition reflects on gentrification in Barcelona and how urban transformation affects the daily life of the inhabitants of the Born district, changing their culture and causing their displacement.

Finally, 'Sumari Astral' is a temporary exhibition that investigates the use of magic in contemporary artistic practices, taking as reference the last collection of poems by Joan Brossa. This exhibition challenges traditional notions of art, linking it to the esoteric and mystery, and offers a unique perspective on the impact of magic on modern artistic creation.

Litter in schools

The 2024-2025 educational program offers activities and projects for schools, with itineraries through Barcelona, guided tours and long-term projects. As a novelty, the Habitable Pedagogical Suites are introduced, which allow poetic skills to be worked on in the classroom. The Brossa School opens this year with courses focused on experimental poetic creation and the mediation between poetry and image. In addition, María Salgado will offer a masterclass on 20th century visual poetry and Ignacio de Antonio Antón will direct a proto-performative seminar.
