The official image for the National Day of Catalonia has been designed by Sergi Delgado, winner of the competition for the third consecutive year. This image aims to reflect the values of Catalanness through three key concepts: union, identity and love.
Delgado's proposal uses the flag as a structural base, with the heart as the main element. This central symbol is designed to integrate and unify the other visual components of the image. The design includes shapes such as spikes, knots and links, which are represented in the colors yellow and red, directly inspired by the Catalan flag.
Delgado is art director and founder of Diatomic Studio in Barcelona, where he combines graphic design techniques with influences from mathematical and algorithmic art. His work is based on natural patterns and is influenced by trends such as Pop Art, Oprtical Art and psychedelic, dreamlike and surrealist movements.
The design created by Delgado addresses the question 'What is the feeling of Catalonia?', a question that varies according to individual emotions and perceptions.
Through this image, it is intended to reflect the diversity of responses with a graphic system that is easy to interpret for a wide audience. Using the flag as a modular grid and the heart as the central symbol, Delgado has created an image that combines the abstraction of new elements with an intuitive design. According to the artist, the heart is "the main element that can encompass everything", highlighting its function as a key component to integrate the different graphic elements and effectively communicate the feeling of Catalanness.
