On September 9, the Botín Foundation's Art Workshop began, designed and directed by the artistic collective Cooking Sections, formed by Daniel Fernández Pascual and Alon Schwabe.
Entitled 'Abecedarios de la mar', the workshop focuses on exploring how humans read and interpret changes in the landscape, from waves to tides, through climate signals, and to reflect on the sustainability of foods
The 11 international participants will travel both to Santander and Valle del Nansa to work in direct contact with the natural environment of Cantabria. They will be accompanied by experts such as María Bulnes (Associació Entrevalles), the naturalist Máximo Sánchez Cobo and the veterinarian Raquel Jaroso, who will guide them through the exploration of the landscape, observing the effects of human activity on ecosystems and visiting livestock farms locals
The workshop will continue at the headquarters of the Botín Foundation, where specialists such as Domingo F. Rasilla Álvarez (Grimena Research Group), Fernando J. Méndez and Sonia Castanedo (GEO-OCEAN) will contribute their knowledge of climate signals in the context of the global change and the Anthropocene. In addition, surfer Asier Puntiverio will share his personal experience on the sea, offering a practical insight into the maritime environment.
Cooking Sections, founded in London in 2013, stands out for working at the intersection between art, ecology and sustainability. With international recognition, they have participated in prestigious events such as the Venice and Istanbul Biennales, bringing an innovative approach that combines installations, performances and videos to examine changes in landscapes and their relationship with social and environmental processes.
This workshop aims to offer participants the opportunity to understand the way in which human beings interact with the landscape and how this influences natural ecosystems.
