The cultural manager Sònia Hernández Almodóvar has been appointed as Minister of Culture of the new Government of Salvador Illa. Hernández served until now as director general of the Cultural Heritage of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat. Before that, she also worked as director of the Museu de les Aigües and of the 'Acció Social d'Aigües de Barcelona' group, as well as coordinator of various museum and educational projects. With this appointment, Hernández Almodóvar assumes the maximum responsibilities of the ministry he entered during Aragonès' mandate.

Hernández was born in Barcelona in 1968. She has a degree in Art History from the University of Barcelona (UB), a postgraduate degree in Museums and Education from the same university and a master's degree in Business and Institutional Communication Management from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Throughout her career, Hernández has worked as an educator, designer and consultant in educational projects for different museum and heritage institutions, such as the "la Caixa" Foundation, the Museum of the History of Catalonia or the Museum of History of Barcelona, and cultural companies such as Ciudadarte or Magma Cultura.
In public interventions, Herández has spoken out in favor of the digitization of the cultural sector and of "adapting museums to the growing and changing needs of current and future society". As she stated in a recent interview with the newspaper 'Ara', Hernández is also in favor of protecting the historical heritage of other cultures rooted in Catalonia, such as, for example, the Muslim and the Romani. Likewise, she is a firm advocate of increasing the resources dedicated to the management of cultural heritage in Catalonia. "The management of heritage has to do with protecting it, providing it financially and giving it uses", he stated in this interview.
