Dance night at Peralada Castle

'Terra Llaurada' wants to be a small tribute to the earth and its cycles, to its constant regeneration, but above all, to its creation

Dance night at Peralada Castle

The dancer and choreographer Aleix Martínez presented the Terra Llaurada show this past Saturday, August 10, at the Mirador del Castell of the Peralada Festival. This show was divided into three parts: as an opening, as a closing and with a short interlude after the solo L'elogi de la fissura, by Lorena Nogal. According to Martínez Terra Llaurada takes as its starting point, the title of the first surrealist work of the Catalan artist Joan Miró, whose centenary is celebrated just this year. Creation, destruction and regeneration are synonyms that beat deeply through the lands of Peralada.

The action of plowing means the regeneration of the fields, and of life itself, a symbolic parallel in dialogue with the current reconstruction process of the festival itself.

During the course of the show the following performances were danced: Ssss, Loca, Excerpt from Preludes, CV, L'élogi de la fissura, Nachtmerrie, Excerpt from Beethoven Project II, Excerpt from Afanador and "Excerpt from Dona nobis pacem . According to choreographer John Jeumeier "Dona nobis pacem which means give us peace, this title is important to me, even at the risk of seeming naive, pathetic or even pretentious to some. Given the rampant unforgiveness in our world, this thought provided me with an important incentive to dig deeper into the complex compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach. In my last season as artistic director I see this creation as a great opportunity."

Bringing together eleven Catalan and European dancers such as Martí Paixà (principal dancer of the Stuttgart Ballet), Lorena Nogal (choreographer, assistant and dancer at La Veronal), Albert Hernández (principal dancer of the National Ballet of Spain and choreographer at La Venidera) or Aleix Martínez (principal dancer of the Hamburg Ballett and choreographer), and works by creators such as John Neumeier, Lorena Nogal, Marcos Morau, Marco Goecke, Albert Hernández or Aleix Martínez, "Terra Llaurada" wanted to be a night of dance dedicated to this small creative seed, the spark that has the ability to light the fire.
