The "La Peixera" Space of the Terracotta Museum hosts the exhibition "Contingent", by the renowned ceramist Lluís Xifra. In their mission to promote artistic ceramics, the Terracotta Museum and the Associació de Ceramistes de la Bisbal inaugurate the ceramic installation Contingent on July 19 at 7:30 p.m. In this exhibition you will be able to see a spectacular artistic installation of cylindrical pieces, made in turn, with which the artist completely fills the exhibition space.
In the words of the ceramist himself, this installation is born from the accident within the repetition. A small carelessness when lifting a piece on the lathe creates an unwanted deformation where that moment of distraction is reflected. An unrepeatable gesture that gives rise to a unique piece. Lluís Xifra tries to replicate that unrepeatable gesture time and time again, slowly creating a set of unique pieces that come together to create a single large-scale work.
So, the artist tries to replicate the gesture more than a thousand times, and each time he does it he creates what the artist calls a "cell" with its own character and which, placed one next to the other, they form a single organism that, despite being static, appears to be alive and moving in the viewer's eyes.
Contingent began to take shape in 2016, in the series production where it explores the difference from artisanal purity, when Xifra accepts the co-authorship of the elements and the dialectic with reality, and gives rise to an organic effect in the tumult. The rest of the exhibited pieces are also born from repetition in turn and from the intention to protest. Mamen of tradition, of a spout or the beak of a plover, utilitarian and everyday pieces that from the artist's new vision will be tentacles of a unique body.
"Contingent" can be visited in the "La Peixera" Space of the Terracotta Museum from July 19, until October 13, 2024.
