Opera: newly created micro-operas at the Gran Teatre del Liceu

The Òh!pera project, which this year presents its third edition, returns with three unpublished micro-operas, scheduled for the 12th, 13th and 14th of July and which will be performed for the first time as part of the Barcelona Greek Festival. These micro-operas, each lasting approximately 30 minutes and called Contradir la nit, Azul como una naranja and Eliza, will be stage directed by Marta Gil Polo, Ester Guntín and Pol Roig Valldosera, respectively. The project has the collaboration of the composers Montserrat Lladó, Guillem Palomar and Ferran Cruixent, as well as the librettists Martí Sales, Laura Ferrero and Pau Miró.

Driven by the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Department of Culture and Creative Industries of Barcelona City Council, with the support of the Design Hub Barcelona (DHub) and the active participation of prestigious schools such as ELISAVA, EINA, BAU and the Institute of the Theatre, Òh!pera presents itself as a platform of opportunity for young creators in all artistic areas. As was emphasized during the presentation of the project at the Liceu, the fundamental objective transcends mere opera production, as it seeks to promote new aesthetics and attract new audiences for the renewal of its language.

Each performance of Òh!pera 's micro-operas will have a maximum of six musicians, including singers and instrumentalists, thanks to the collaboration of the Ferrer Salat Foundation - Fundació Conservatori del Liceu. In addition, the performances will take place in three unusual spaces of the Teatre del Liceu such as the Sala Mestre Cabanes, the Box stage and the Foyer, adding an intimate and unique dimension to the performances.

Òh!pera not only celebrates contemporary music and drama, but also stands as an agent of transformation for an age-old art that continues to evolve and reinvent itself. This project aims to train and support the next generation of creative talents destined to redefine the current cultural landscape. Through collaborations with established professionals and the exploration of new narratives and forms, the project achieves a balance between tradition and innovation, while encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and the creation of a space where creativity can flourish freely.
