The Museu Casa de la Moneda hosts the exhibition Collecting, genesis of museums: The Castle of Peralada opening the ual will take place on May 9 at 7.30 p.m. With the exhibition Collecting, genesis of museums: The Castle of Peralada pays tribute to the world of collecting that it owes so much to and that it permanently supports and stimulates with its commemorative coinages. To this end, and with the collaboration of the Perelada Castle Museum, a careful selection of the most representative pieces from the Castle's collections is presented.
The Castle was built in the 14th century by the Counts of Peralada, one of the most important and long-standing lineages of the Catalan nobility. It is part of a large property surrounded by an extensive park, which includes a second adjacent building, also from the 14th century, which was a Carmelite convent confiscated in 1835. When in 1923 Miguel Mateu (1898-1972) acquired the Castle in Marquès de la Torre, heir to the Counts of Peralada, finds himself with a restoration pampered in detail and refurbishes the spaces, changing their previous use and attending to their needs, including the exhibition of the collections.
Today the property continues to belong to the Suqué-Mateu family, grandsons of the collector. It is currently in the Convent del Carmen where most of the collections that were opened to the public in 1980 are located.
The exhibition can be visited until September 30, 2024.
