Manresa inaugurates the Baroque Museum of Catalonia in the historic college of Sant Ignasi

Last February 21, 2024, the city of Manresa celebrated the inauguration of the Baroque Museum of Catalonia, a new cultural discovery located in the historic building of the old college of Sant Ignasi. This new venue has been created with the aim of revitalizing and valuing the Catalan Baroque, an artistic trend that took a back seat during the Neoclassicism period.

The museum's collection consists of 182 pieces of art, mostly originating from the Museum of Manresa and other institutions such as the National Art Museum of Catalonia and the Art Collection of the Generalitat of Catalonia. These pieces include paintings, sculptures, ceramics and altarpieces, as well as furniture and objects of applied arts, creating a wide range that portrays the richness of the Catalan Baroque. The museum also presents a wide representation of Catalan baroque music, integrating sound as a key element of the exhibition. This, together with the works of art, promises to offer a complete immersion in the Baroque era.

With an investment of 7.5 million euros in the rehabilitation of the building and another 1.9 million in the creation of the museum, this project is not only a bet for culture but also for the local economy, hoping- I know that it will become a point of touristic and academic attraction. The museum will occupy the first floor of the building, with plans to expand and develop more spaces in the future.

In addition, the Baroque Museum of Catalonia aims to become a center for the study and dissemination of this period, with activities that include conferences, workshops and research. Located in Manresa, a city with a rich heritage of Baroque artists, the location of the museum underlines this place as the headquarters for this cultural institution.

With the inauguration of this new institution, Manresa reaffirms its commitment to the preservation and promotion of Catalan cultural heritage, offering a vision of the artistic heritage of the region that hopes to captivate both locals and tourists from all over the world.
