The American Institute of Architects has awarded the title of honorary member to the Banyol architect Josep Miàs. The committee in charge of the recognition has highlighted the "remarkable work" of the founder of Mias Architects, recognized for, among other works, the rehabilitation of the old town of Banyoles. His "exceptional work" and "contributions to architecture and society at an international level" were highlighted by the jury.
The distinction awarded by the American Institute of Architects adds to the series of international recognitions received by Miàs in recent years, among which an exclusive exhibition at the Center Pompidou in Paris stands out. In fact, part of the models, photographs and sculptures of the most outstanding projects of the Banyól architect over two decades of career are now part of the museum's permanent collection, which is considered one of the most outstanding destinations at the level worldwide in the field of architecture.
Josep Miàs is the author of recognized works with very varied programs ranging from product design to landscaping. After collaborating with Enric Miralles in the reform of the Santa Caterina market, Miàs reformed the one in Barceloneta, opening a line of work that still lasts, with works in Can Vidalet and la Plana, giving a second life to these facilities so important for urban identity. Author of multiple buildings, offices, homes and shops, in Barcelona he is leaving his mark with the set of reforms he has carried out in Tibidabo, where he touches one of the decisive scales of architecture: that of public space. It was precisely with a commission for public space, with the adaptation of the old district of Banyoles, that Miàs successfully managed to improve the quality of life of the citizens of his city.
