The Girona Auditorium started its new season yesterday with a lyrical recital starring the renowned tenor Javier Camarena, who debuted with great success presenting his latest album, Il sogno. In addition, the opening included the premiere of the striking light and sound installation entitled Signs, the first work of the artist-in-residence of 2024.
The lobby of the building will display the first creation of this year's artist-in-residence, Playmodes, an audiovisual research studio. This installation, which will remain on display until March 10, establishes an intimate dialogue with the architectural space that houses it and its visitors. Every element, from the architecture to the machinery and software, has been designed and handcrafted by the talented team at Playmodes.
The result is a modular audiovisual instrument that profoundly fuses light, sound and kinetic elements. This audiovisual research collective stands out for its exceptional dialogue between sound and visual art. Their projects are at the crossroads between design, art and engineering, with audiovisual instruments that they build with their own technologies in an artisanal spirit. His language is oriented towards the consolidation of space, light, sound and movement from multiple perspectives. Immersive installations of light and sound, sculptural devices, kinetic contraptions, scenographies or audiovisual performances with instrumental performers, which explore an abstract universe of visual music. His projects have been presented since 2013 in Barcelona (Sònar, MAC Festival, LlumBCN, Lapsus Festival, la Mercè), Girona (VAD Festival), Taüll, Madrid, Seville, Bilbao, Gijón, Lanzarote (VI Bienal de Arte) , Prague (Signal Festival), Las Vegas (LIB Festival), Houston, Karlsruhe, Metz, Bristol, Copenhagen, Chartres, Lyon, Macau or the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
