This autumn we can join the exciting research carried out, on the one hand, by the Vibra Design Museum (Germany) and, on the other, by the Disseny Hub Barcelona team on women in design. A story that is told with objects, ideas and ways of seeing and living life. Until January 7, we can enjoy Som aquí! Women in design, 1900 - today at the Design Hub Barcelona.
The traveling exhibition of the Vibra Design Museum stops in Barcelona to show pieces of international design - mainly Western - created by women, from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. Added to this exhibition is the research carried out by Teresa Bastardes, Isabel Cendoya and Isabel Fernández del Moral, part of the Disseny Hub Barcelona team. A space that wants to do justice to the women who worked in design teams and to all those pioneers of design in Spain.
At the exhibition we will be able to delve into the design from the 20th century made by women and for women. It must be taken into account that in Spain, the progress and innovation of the modernist movement of the thirties were broken during the civil war and the dictatorship of Franco. In addition, we find practically a desert of studies with a gender perspective on design in Catalonia and Spain, so this is a very special exhibition, with field research in which pioneer women have participated in the design in the sixties in Spain. It is the beginning of a search that does not want to stop, in which new pieces are found that help to understand how life is thought and lived in different moments of history being a woman. At the Hub, they not only want to put a face to these pioneering women and ask who those women were working in product design, graphic design... but also want to question how inclusive design is with the needs of women . With a collection of nearly thirty innovative projects, the needs of bodies, diseases, violence, menstruation, motherhood and also empowerment are highlighted. Projects that help understand how gender identity is constructed. The exhibition is accompanied by activities such as conferences, consultation spaces and the meeting between new generations of female designers and pioneers of the last century.
