The Mayoral Gallery opens a new space in Barcelona

The prestigious Mayoral gallery will inaugurate a second artistic space during the first quarter of 2024 in the program of exhibitions of contemporary artists. The new gallery, attached to the current one, will be located on the same street as Consell de Cent, 286, close to Passeig de Gràcia, a neighborhood considered the epicenter of art since the sixties, and which continues to evolve in sync with the transformations of the urban landscape.

The initiative is in charge of the second generation of gallerists, formed by Eduard, Jordi and Cristina Mayoral, children of Manel Mayoral, founder of the gallery. As for the design of the space, it is directed by Jorge Vidal STUDIO, which has been recognized with different awards such as the FAD Award and the Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. The new space will have 250 m2 of surface and will be contiguous and symmetrical to the current one.

It must be said that the opening of the gallery marks a chapter of innovation in line with the spirit of Mayoral, which since 1989 has shown works by outstanding artists, such as Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso and the great figures of the art scene . Jordi Mayoral has stated that "we are very excited to contribute, also, to the artistic offer of the city through a program dedicated to contemporary art with the same criteria of quality, discipline and avant-garde that have characterized the trajectory of the gallery" .

With this expansion, Mayoral increases its physical surface and at the same time emphasizes its commitment to contemporary art and to the city where it has developed most of its career, after in 2019 it consolidated its internationalization process with the opening of a new headquarters in Paris.

For his part, Eduard Mayoral has commented that "historically, Barcelona has been distinguished for being a metropolis where major artistic movements of global scope converge. Our objective is to involve the emerging contemporary avant-gardes and offer a showcase to project them in the international field". It should be remembered that the Mayoral gallery was founded in Barcelona in 1989. In recent years it has begun a new phase, under the management of the second generation of this saga of gallerists, made up of Jordi, Eduard and Cristina Mayoral. Since then it has been a pioneer in exhibiting and promoting artists in two lines of work: avant-garde of the 20th century - such as Miró or Picasso - and great post-war names, such as Tàpies, Chillida, Millares, Saura, Zóbel, Francés or Vieira da Silva .

Visiting hours to the gallery are from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 15:30 to 19:30. On Saturdays it is open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
