The Abelló Museum deploys in the exhibition The lived collection, the painted life, his collection and his painting in different parts of the Catalan geography so that the painter's collection dialogues with the artistic backgrounds of other museums.
In this last quarter of 2023, a total of 18 museums in the Catalan territory have joined in celebrating the centenary of the artist as part of the activity Joan Abelló, the invited collection . The partnerships that will be established between Abelló and the other painters are a tribute to the relationships that the painter forged with the different artists of his time.
The museums that have joined the tribute to the painter from Mollet are the Joan Brossa Foundation , where the dialogue with Abelló will be created through social networks; the Frederic Marès Museum , with whom Abelló shared a passion for collecting; the Subirachs Space , where you can admire a magnificent portrait of Abelló made by Subirachs; the Caldes de Montbui Thermalia Museum ; or the Salvador Vilaseca Museum in Reus, where Abelló's admiration for one of the sculptors most represented in his collection is evident. the Museums of Sitges; the Tomàs Balvey Archive Museum in Cardedeu, with a nod to modernism.
The Museum of Modern Art of Tarragona also participates, where Enric Granados acts as a bridge between Abelló's collection and Julio Antonio's project, which is exhibited in the Museum's permanent room; the Museu Deu in El Vendrell , where the personalities of Antoni Deu and Joan Abelló will talk; Espai Guinovart , in Agramunt, also wanted to join the celebration by inviting the Abelló Museum to exhibit one of the works of the artist from Lleida that can usually be seen in the Museum's permanent rooms. At the Sabadell Art Museum, Abelló's painting is integrated into the magnificent interior of Casa Turull; at the Cerdanyola Art Museum, landscapes painted by Abelló and Joaquim Mir maintain a dialogue with the museum's collection.
The Valls Museum , with an Abelló posing in front of the photographer Francesc Català Roca, the Girona Art Museum, with the painting by Joan Abelló de La Devesa, the Palau de Caldes d'Estrac Foundation , where the Mompou, Palau and Abelló dialogue, the Museum of Lleida also collaborates in the activity, a work by the sculptor Ismael Smith will enter into dialogue in the permanent rooms, as well as the Museum of Granollers , which has wanted to join the tribute since of its exhibition space of the Showcase. A landscape by Joan Abelló from the Museu de Granollers will illuminate the close relationship that the artist always maintained with the Vallès.
The first exhibition, Memories of Africa. Abelló a Côte d'Ivoire presents the result of the trip that the artist took in 1987 to Côte d'Ivoire accompanied by the anthropologist and photographer Albert Costa, an aesthetic journey to "look, paint and photograph". This trip was collected in the book Pistas de África, which collects the 39 works made by the artist. Taking advantage of the Abelló Year, the Joan Abelló Foundation presents this collection of drawings and the set of photographs taken by Albert Costa, which immortalized Abelló's moments drawing in the Ivory Coast. The aim of the exhibition is also to make known another great passion of Abelló, travel.
The second exhibition, entitled Abelló. An imaginary landscape , commemorates the centenary of Joan Abelló through the contemporary look of the duo of digital artists Varvara & Mar, who have made the exhibition possible using artificial intelligence (AI).
