The current managing director of the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community (CMCV) and the Center del Carme Cultura Contemporània (CCCC), José Luis Pérez Pont, has been dismissed from his position on November 21.
Pérez Pont took up the position of manager of the Consortium in 2016, shortly after the Valencian Government left. Its incorporation was a powerful bet to bring current art closer to the citizens embodied in the Center del Carme-Cultura Contemporània, in Valencia, which was transformed in the time of the Botanic into a great bet in cultural matters that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year with its various initiatives. In 2021, he renewed the contract for five years, which will be interrupted next Tuesday.
The PP already asked for the dismissal of Pérez Pont last mandate after the controversy over a graffiti in an exhibition of PichiAvo in the cloister of the Carmel convent. From the Ministry of Culture they have preferred not to comment on the termination, since the meeting of the Governing Council has not yet been held and they have limited themselves to saying that "the renewal of positions in the bodies that are part of the administration it is usual and necessary when a new stage begins."
Personalities and entities from the world of culture called a rally on November 21, the day on which Pérez Pont's termination will predictably occur, at 5:00 p.m. in front of the Center del Carme de Cultura Contemporània (CCCC) under the slogan "No to termination of José Luis Pérez Pont. For an open, inclusive and transformative CCCC".
Pérez Pont has announced that he reserves the right to take legal action against his dismissal and has defended the "work carried out during the last seven and a half years in the promotion of contemporary Valencian art", the revitalization of museums, the support to emerging artists and the development of artistic projects. "The politicians are passing through, the professionals have come to stay," he concluded, clearly moved.
