Ideas of dialogue and ecosystem at Bòlit, Center for Contemporary Art
bonart girona - 28/09/23

The new season of Bòlit, Center for Contemporary Art. Girona will maintain the notions of "dialogue" and "ecosystem" as structural axes, ideas that will be worked on from four major discursive spaces: tactical thinking and the public sphere; materialisms; territory and zoning, and displacement and memory.

The program for the fall of 2023 and the year 2024 will include eight proposals and will begin this October dealing with the relationship between the brain, images and control with “The shadow under the eyelid. Anatomy of the eccentric body", by Pep Admetlla, and the search for the idea of migration and trajectory with "The Bluebird Call", by Mal Pelo. In the coming months, the issues of the institution and conventions will also be addressed with "The Idiot", by Martí Peran; sustainability, ecosystems and climate ethics with the collective exhibition "Apories on the air"; democratic memory through mass graves with "Twenty-two holes to make a requiem"; the relationship between tourism and Francoism with “Vacances amb Franco”, and the Girona of the late eighties and early nineties with “Infralocus. The Girona people of 1985-95". The program will also include the exhibition resulting from the educational project Bòlit Menor.

The deputy mayor and councilor for Culture, Quim Ayats Bartrina; the fourth vice-president and Deputy for Culture of the Diputació de Girona, Jordi Camps; the director of the Bòlit Center for Contemporary Art. Girona, Íngrid Guardiola, and the artist Pep Admetlla, have presented the details of the artistic proposal for this new year.

"I am very proud of the work that is done from the Bòlit, as well as from the other cultural spaces, to bring culture to everyone, with quality programming and 365 days of the year. The Bòlit allows culture to be linked to the new times and the challenges of the current and future world", said the deputy mayor and Councilor for Culture at the City Council, Quim Ayats.

For his part, the fourth vice-president and Deputy for Culture of the Diputació de Girona, Jordi Camps, emphasizes that "At the Diputació de Girona we are committed to transversal, community and educational projects in order to bring Culture everywhere. And the Bòlit works with educational resources, with adapted guided tours, and with the art project in the different entities of the territory" and adds "The programming of the Bòlit. Center d'Art Contemporani every year becomes a benchmark in the country. A meeting point for contemporary art in Girona that has the ability to make us rediscover art in our everyday lives".

El Bòlit gives visibility to the visual arts and artists, both from the local territory, as well as Catalan and international, through the dissemination of the visual arts through a program of exhibitions, which addresses topics of general and specific interest of the contemporary world, which is always accompanied by a public programme, which disseminates, educates, provides tools, critical judgment and collective memory exercises.

Each Bòlit exhibition is the backbone of a constellation of activities, own or in collaboration, such as conferences, seminars or dialogues that allow a better understanding of its contents (Bòlit Pensament) or family activities that help to better understand the world in which we live (Miticultor). In addition, other mediation activities are deployed, such as educational resources for schools or visits adapted for people with functional diversity and workshops, to be able to understand the concepts from practice.

Educational and community programs

Since its inception, El Bòlit has included a varied offer of educational and community programs, aimed at children and adolescents, families, art professionals and the general public. It does this through educational resources, with guided tours adapted to the deaf community, with the Bòlit Mentor project and with the "Second Residence" education and mediation projects, a work of art in the squares on the evenings summer (in collaboration with La Volta i les Bernardes), and "Nexes", an art project in schools, in collaboration with the Carme Auguet school and the Department of Education of Girona City Council . At the same time, the artists' residencies project remains a space for research, investigation and creation, which opens up the possibility of exchanging projects with other national, state and international centers that have residencies. In its 15 years of history, it has welcomed more than 100 artists from all over the world.

For 2023, the collaborations with La Chambre Blanche, from Québec, are maintained; Rad'Art, from Associazione Arteco d'Italia; the EMA, from Girona, or Lo Pati. Terres de l'Ebre Art Center (Amposta). Exchanges are also carried out, as is the case with the yum-yam space in Mieres, or the new collaboration this 2023 with Arbar, an art and culture center in the Serra de Rodes. The results of the research processes are presented in the form of Open Studio or small interventions in the windows of the Bòlit_PouRodó. On the other hand, the Bòlit has an archive and documentation project, linked both to the center's activities and programs, as well as proposals, projects and artists from the territory. Likewise, at the end of 2023, a new publishing collection dedicated to long artistic trajectories will be launched, which will publish one book a year.
