Xavier Valls. Works on paper and paintings' at the Sophie Scheidecker Gallery

The Sophie Scheidecker Gallery presents, until October 20, the Xavier Valls exhibition. Works on paper and paintings.

From the Swiss sculptor Charles Collet he learned to look, draw and paint from nature. Influenced by Joaquim Sunyer, Daniel Vázquez-Díaz and cubists such as Cezanne, he evolves from rigorous geometry to the expression and sensuality of objects enveloped in light. His detailed and meticulous work evokes everyday realities (apples, figs, brushes, windows...) within an intimate representation.

Landscapes and still lifes with short, luminous strokes, soft and subtle chromatic ranges which, combined with harmony, give the whole a degree of purity and almost mystical delicacy.

The work of Xavier Valls possesses a secret poetry, with a depth of serenity, with a sense of taste for the objects and the fruits of the earth. His paintings have personal vibes. It is hard to think that these palpitations have stopped, even if they are recorded on canvas and paper.

The work of Xavier Valls can be found in several museums in Spain and France mainly, highlighting the National Museum Center d'Art Reina Sofia (Madrid), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lanzarote and the National Fund of Contemporary Art (FNAC ) from Paris.

Among his recognitions is that of Commander of Arts and Letters in France, 1979; Critic's Award Prix Drouant de Paris; the Gold Medal of Merit for Fine Arts obtained in 1993; National Fine Arts Award of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
