From October 26 to 29, the Design Hub Barcelona hosts the tenth Art Photo Bcn edition, which becomes the celebration of photography at all levels involving the different spheres in which the work of photographers is produced, managed and made visible photographers
In addition to twenty stands where the proposals of current and classic authors, galleries and institutions, as well as those awarded in the previous edition, will be organized the photobook market, a tribute show to the authors of that first edition already ten years ago and many more surprises. Among the Barcelona exhibitors, the galleries of Carles Taché with Alberto García-Alix, Valid Foto with Xavier Manrique and Il Mondo with Jaume Buxeda and Luis Ripoll return for another year, the legacies of Photographic Social Vision to which is added the stand curated by The Over with William Keo, author of the Magnum agency, and NAMEVOY's experience with José Carlos Florez's virtual work on the urban transformation of Plaça de les Glòries.
From the Madrid area they return to Art Photo Bcn from the new formation El Local with some of the authors who have gone through the screenings such as Shinji Nagabe or Ignacio Navas. Participating for the first time from London is the LS10 gallery specializing in Iranian authors with an interesting cast such as Jalal Sepehr, Jassem Ghazbanpour, Ebrahim Noroozi, Pargol E Naloo, Babak Kazemi. This Book Is True travels to Barcelona with works by Cristina de Middel and Carlos Alba.
Joined for the first year is the Antoni Pinyol gallery in Reus with work by Adrià Goula and the Esther Montoriol Gallery with work that transcends David Ymbernon's photography. El Observatorio and IEFC schools will present works by outstanding students such as Eli Apeztegui, Laura Aranda Lavado and Pau Vendrell respectively. Brought directly from the ninth edition of Art Photo Bcn, both Cristóbal Ascencio and Jordi Barreras, winners of the Art Photo Bcn and Cópia Lab awards, will be present.
Cristóbal Ascencio himself is the protagonist of the official poster with his project Las flores mueren dos veces which has had a prominent presence in many competitions of the past season on an international scale. A project that uses the intimate evocation of the family album with the creativity of new technologies impeccably. This project will be presented by the author during the press conference providing a virtual immersion for the enjoyment of the attendees.
The axes of action of the festival will revolve around the figure of the collector, with the intention of democratizing and getting to know this practice that forms the essential engine of the art world thanks to the work of Moritz Neumüller as moderator of a interesting meeting with Uwe Schögl, from the National Bibliothek in Vienna who together with Simone Klein will comment on collecting around the image.
Another of the scenarios that will be created is a lively debate table about the Centro Nacional de Fotografía in Sória, in dialogue with the Catalan institutions, both public and private, that develop their action in this same direction. The protagonists will be Pepe Serra, director of the MNAC, Valentín Roma, director of the Virreina Center de la Imatge, Teresa Grandas of the MACBA and Pepe Font de Mora of the Fundación Foto Colectania, moderated by Alejandro Castellote as a representative of the Centro de apoyo al Plataforma National of Photography and Image.
In addition, these open activities will be completed with a view to the past, to the local heritage of Barcelona by the hand of Martí Llorens and Rebecca Muttel on the equipment that treasures the RACAB, the first camera with which an image was taken in the Peninsula. Looking towards the present and the future of photography, actions and activities will be carried out that seek to make the current circuit visible, such as the presentations of editorial novelties from the Photobook Market. All these activities, as well as the workshops and exhibitions, surround the great celebration of the photographic medium that unites Art Photo Bcn in the tenth edition to continue supporting the image sector and develop a point of union with the general and specialized public.
