Francesc Artigau is leading a solo exhibition at the Esther Montoriol gallery which can be seen until November 3rd. There is painting, watercolor, drawing. It is above all the occasion to show an ambitious work, the polyptych La grand conversa and the triptych Les tres Parques. The polyptych exceeds in size - it is 260x624 cm - other large works that Artigau has done recently, such as the one dedicated to the lower Sant Pere street.
In the gallery you will discover a multitude of characters who occupy a space made familiar by the artist. A cafe that he frequents on Sundays to draw, characterized by the zenith view and some stairs. Among the characters is Max Beckmann, who was already a regular in other films; Diana di Nuzzo, a friend who has immortalized in countless works; a Japanese couple dressed in kimonos, couples in love, relatives, painters, Picasso portraits, carnival characters, girls everywhere, like his model Frédérique, etc. It is a Macedonia of characters represented in bright colors, dominated by blue.
The abundance of characters can be found in the other works, such as the triptych The Three Parks, which are three goddesses passing the thread of life. In these, the female figure of each goddess dominates and then populates the work with complementary figures. The intense and contrasting color that dominates the composition stands out again. Color disappears in the ink drawings where we observe compositional control. Due to the fact that they are once again loaded with characters and situations and the line never goes over the drawing already made, but Artigau seems to already anticipate all the elements. In short, the exhibition is a demonstration of Francesc Artigau's capacity for invention and work.
