From September 16 to October 29, MAC Mataró presents the Cori Mercadé solo exhibition. Ascensions and attachments with the mentorship of Alexandra Laudo and the collaboration of M. Josep Balsach, Isabel Banal and M. José González .
The exhibition Ascensions and Attachment takes as its point of origin the Verònica project . These are drawings and paintings that have the cloth as a central icon. The work begins in 2013, at a time when both his mother and daughter were going through difficult times in which accompaniment filled the artist's day-to-day life. The scraps she could scratch she filled with small stripes that, as if weaving, accompanied the cloth and herself. Little by little, the stripes and the cloth have taken on different identities.
Cori Mercadé's way of dealing with artistic production has also been freed from the restrictive training of conceptual art in which she did not allow herself to deviate from a self-imposed script, a circumstance that has allowed her to go below and above the cloth appear new iconographies that are now the central axis of this exhibition project. The veronica, the stone and the ascension are the three icons, symbols and archetypes she works with, sometimes still covered or accompanied by the cloth and stripes: drawings and paintings she calls Verónicas Ingrávides . The concept of clinging is present as a matter/matrix that houses, that weighs and from which to rise.
Cori Mercadé has been working and drawing in the same space that will host the exhibition: the walls of a place that he steps on every day and which are at the same time replicas of the vicissitudes of a building that transits between clinging to a floor of which you can't escape and a single piece of sky from which to dreamily project any way out.
Cori Mercadé (Barcelona, 1968)
With a degree in Fine Arts, she does artistic research focused on painting and its history. Particularly interested in the perceptual and symbolic relationship that painting proposes between us and the world, Cori Mercadé investigates the historical tradition, as well as the present mediated by the reproduced image. In this sense, he develops projects that emerge from a free look at tradition in order to make approaches that allow new readings. On the other hand, the artist works in the field of mediation, carrying out projects for institutions such as the M|A|C, town halls, civic centres, museums, education centres, etc. She has been coordinator of primary and 4th grade artistic education at Col·legi Montserrat in Barcelona (2017-2022). She was co-founder of the artistic education centers BLANCDEguix in El Masnou and TAULADEGUIX in Barcelona. He also designs scripts and conducts shows and conferences that juxtapose music and painting, which he calls Pictophonies.
