bonart hospitalet de llobregat - 08/09/23

The artist Alba Mayol opens the Tecla Sala Art Center's exhibition season as part of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend 2023. The fountain project is part of the Tecla Sala District cycle, a proposal that brings together support for research, production and the exhibition aimed at creators who are working in the Cultural District of L'Hospitalet and who want to accompany their most recent works by making them visible in exhibition projects. The inauguration will take place on September 14, at 7 pm and will be attended by the artist and the curator of the exhibition, Albert Mercadé. The exhibition can be visited until January 7, 2024.

fontane is an initiatory and reminiscent exhibition. The artist offers us a leap in time and space, showing the sensitive seams of his ancestral identity. Formed in Barcelona, Mayol Curci has forged part of her visual culture in the country of Italy, where she comes from on her mother's side. From the revisiting of that germinal environment, a whole set of shapes, colors, fluids, textures, words, resonances, materials is articulated, all of them ambiguous and contingent, organic and challenging. Concavities, doors, walls, expressions, fountains or containers are manifested in an exploration of the artist through the material culture of southern Italy, a melting pot of cultures where layers of iconic and linguistic signs reverberate that the exhibition wants to review and to resign

fontane is a journey through the feminine and maternal matrix of the family: through its disconnections, silences, intensities, exclusions, conflicts, discomforts. Only in this way do Alba Mayol Curci's minimal works vibrate and embrace us. They tremble with sensitivity in a shared fragility in which every letter, every object, every texture, every drop, reverberates a wound.

Alba Mayol Curci (Barcelona, 1979) is a visual artist and philologist resident at Espai de Salamina, in L'Hospitalet. He completed his training with a postgraduate degree in Visual Culture at the University of Barcelona and photography studies at Central Saint Martins College in London.
