Fina Miralles and Maria Girona at the Vila Casas Foundation
bonart barcelona - 06/09/23

The Vila Casas Foundation inaugurates the Fina Miralles exhibitions on September 13. From beyond time and Maria Girona. Contemporary with herself that can be visited until January 14, 2024 at the Volart Spaces.

Fine Mirrors. From beyond time deepens the dialogue raised in the four-volume edition of Fina Miralles' writings with the title Fina Miralles. Fertile words 1972-2017 where the deep relationship between writing and the visual work of the artist is highlighted, bringing to light what the eyes do not see and what the artist makes us perceive. Curated by Maia Creus and Maria Lluïsa Faxedas, the exhibition includes landscapes that shape a cosmocentric vision of the world and draw the beauty of a universe of analogies in which the earth, the atmosphere, the sky, the firmament and humans they become orbits of energy in relation. Parallel to the landscape, the figure traverses the entire pictorial corpus of Fina Miralles, with images that refer to the indigenous past common to all human beings, the presence of the biological mother or the cosmic tree and water beings; we also find a gallery of mythological spirits that summon from the ancestral power of the totem to the spirit of the forest, of day and night, or give an image to the flowering of the vegetable kingdom.

The Vila Casas Foundation also presents, coinciding with the centenary of her birth, an anthological exhibition of Maria Girona (Barcelona, 1923-2015), curated by Victòria Combalia and Àlex Susanna, which helps to discover her work and contributes to situating it in the place it deserves: not only as a non-academic rereading of Noucentisme, but as an extraordinarily refined embodiment of a Mediterranean imaginary centered on the visual stimuli coming from its magical triangle: Barcelona, Cadaqués and Calaceit.
