Madrid is preparing for Overture Madrid Gallery Weekend

Madrid is preparing for another year to welcome Obertura Madrid Gallery Weekend, the great event that marks the beginning of the artistic season in the city. This year, the event promoted by Art Madrid - Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries of Madrid - celebrates its 14th edition with the participation of the 56 galleries of the association which include some new additions such as Alzueta Gallery, Yusto Giner or VETA by Fer Francés.

Between the 14th and the 17th of September, the galleries of Madrid will welcome the exhibition season with the joint opening of the exhibition proposals, top-level samples of national and international artists such as Chema Madoz, Elina Brotherus, Nancy Spero, Inma Femenía , José Manuel Ballester, Fernanda Fragateiro, Darío Villalba or Immaculada Salinas.

With the aim of bringing contemporary art to the widest possible audience, Obertura has a program of free activities that join the joint opening. Thus, throughout the month the galleries will offer a unique experience that opens the exhibition season in different neighborhoods of the city such as Chamberí, Saleses, Lavapiés, Lletres and Salamanca, in addition, of course, to those located in the center.

During Obertura Madrid Gallery Weekend the galleries will be open throughout the weekend with extended hours: Thursday from 12:00 to 22:00, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 20:00. Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is joined by a program of events in the gallery spaces as well as other activities aimed at promoting contemporary art.

Contemporary art floods different neighborhoods of the city
Obertura bets on tours of the public space to discover works of art located in the streets, squares and buildings of Madrid. For this reason, the appointment once again offers guided tours by Alfonso de la Torre to the works of Pablo Palazuelo at the Bankinter headquarters at Passeig de la Castellana 29 and at the Open Air Sculpture Museum at Passeig de la Castellana, 40 On the other hand, the ARCO Foundation continues to organize its usual guided tours, the ARCO Gallery Walks, which propose circuits to visit Art Madrid galleries located in different districts of the city.

Aware of the need to be accessible to the public, Obertura Madrid Gallery Weekend has its own app - available for free on Google Play and AppStore - which is active throughout the year. Through it the visitor can organize his route and enjoy the artistic offer of the different galleries distributed by neighborhoods such as Lavapiés, Lletres, Centre, Saleses, Chamberí or Salamanca.

In short, Obertura Madrid Gallery Weekend seeks to bring contemporary art and the activity of galleries ever closer to the professional and non-professional public and to encourage dialogue between contemporary art and other cultural disciplines.
