The exhibition Phasmas, by the artist Andres Siri, is the first of the two projects selected in the last call for Traveling Exhibitions and the one corresponding to the nineteenth edition of this cycle organized by the Diputació de Girona.

The exhibition was inaugurated yesterday afternoon in the exhibition hall (ground floor) of the House of Culture of the Diputació de Girona, with the participation of the fourth vice-president and Deputy for Culture, Jordi Camps, and can be visited until September 27

Taking as a reference the word phásma , a Greek word meaning 'form', 'appearance', 'vision', 'ghost' and therefore 'omen', a way of creating suspense, a way of thinking, the proposal of Siri is based on one of the multiple ways of working with images and their contents: the one that inquires about the shape and the possibility of making the image appear.

In this exhibition, we can see blurry images, which are not fully defined because they come from the shadows. For this reason, the creation of these images consists in retaining the revealed instant, what remains hidden. Andres Siri does this through different techniques, such as drawing, cyanotype, painting and frottage , and installation and video are part of this exhibition approach in which the images hide and reveal hidden meanings that each viewer will have to interpret, to complete.

Andres Siri works with matter to create images, or perhaps, rather than creating, to bring out images that already exist in the container that contains them.

Andres Siri

Andres Siri was born in Buenos Aires in 1974. He graduated in Architecture from the University of Buenos Aires in 2000. In 2002 he moved to Girona, where he studied the Master's in art criticism and communication at the Faculty of Letters of the UdG (2003-2004), which provides him with an artistic and theoretical training and allows him to come into contact with the artistic world of the city and Catalonia. Since then, he has been living in Girona, where he combines artistic practice with the professional practice of architecture.

In each new artistic project, Andres Siri investigates, experiments and deepens in different contents relating various disciplines. Territories that move between art, architecture, photography and archaeology.

His work could be seen at the Art & Gavarres Festival in 2011, where he set up an installation that embodied the relationship between the landscape, physical forms and their margins. In 2016 and 2018 he received the European grant The Spur with a research and creation project carried out in Rome on the walls of an aqueduct in the extraradius. In the years 2021 and 2023 he received two Kreas grants from the Girona City Council with new projects that follow the line of his previous works, artistic proposals he made on walls in the Pedreres neighborhood and in the Montjuïc castle.

Apart from artistic practice, he has also been part of several teaching projects, including, The Flying Mountain, at the La Volta Cultural Association, in 2022; the course 'Art and architecture for the child', at the Barri Vell - Mercadal civic center in Girona in 2014 and 2015. He was also a teacher of the last design course at the University of Buenos Aires (Càtedra Solsona, from 1999 in 2001) and in 2005.
