Euphonic Festival or how to overcome the politics of an undocumented, ignorant and populist mayor

Lately, we do not jump from scares in the economic, political, sporting and, of course, cultural fields. Recently I was reading about narcissistic behaviors and whether you have to be a moron to "succeed" in this life. There is controversy. It seems that, empirically speaking, you can say no, but it is hard to believe. The fact is that the Eufonic - led by Vicent Fibla -, the festival of sound, visual and digital arts of the Terres de l'Ebre inaugurated yesterday and awarded, just a month ago, with the National Culture Award 2023 , it has been able to survive and reformulate in a very short time after losing the support of the Ràpita City Council, an essential logistical and financial support that disappeared overnight almost without warning. We do not deny at any time that the exercise of politics entails changes and selects priorities. We do not deny that culture should be untouchable. But what we do categorically disapprove of is the lack of argumentation, culture and tact to deal with culture and important projects like the one that Vicent Fibla and his team manage to develop outside the conventional circuits. This end of June, just before the start of the new edition, a populist mayor, Xavier Revertí -el Xapo -, with narcissistic tendencies and with obvious ignorance, notified his director that he was withdrawing his support, justifying that: " La Ràpita already has an Oktoberfest franchise, which is an international event. We don't need anything else." A man with Gil and Gil left - that unpresentable football president - who with his absolute majority, based on rather surreal populist actions, has done what he wanted. Perhaps the Eufonic festival was not aligned with economic activities related to the businesses of "Xapo"? We don't know, what is clear is that not being able to differentiate between Euphonique and Oktoberfest is susceptible to remarkable cultural myopia. It is from being a complete ignoramus. El Xapo has made a Rubiales. It is infuriating that attitudes like this, no matter how much autonomy the mayors may have, go unpunished. From the Diputació de Tarragona , as well as from the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya , the Ministry of Culture, apart from the cultural and artistic collective, we should do everything we can to try to reverse these dynamics. With the closure of the Museu del Quart it was achieved and even this fact damaged the re-election of the mayor. Should Xavier Reverté stay calm? Actions are needed, which are already being done, not only for Ràpita to recover a festival that other surrounding municipalities covet, but for the dignity of the sector. We must not allow mayors of this magnitude who demonstrate profound ignorance and a short and pathetic view of the country, as well as not recognizing the effort involved in carrying out projects of this nature.
All in all, a 10 to the Fibla team and the director himself, as well as the municipalities and sponsors who support him, for straightening the course without losing too much momentum and being able to open a first class event. For many years this temperament of the cultural world and this resilience against the storm.
