The Vernissage addresses deception with Joan Fontcuberta

The Vernissage , a digital project that approaches art from the protocol ritual of the presentation, in society, of a set of works, presents this August its ninth chapter - and last of this third season – dedicated to Joan Fontcuberta (Barcelona, 1955) and entitled Deception. Give cat for hare . Deception is treated in this chapter as "a conscious action whose aim is for a lie to be accepted by the receiver as truth".

The protagonist of the new opening is Joan Fontcuberta (Barcelona, 1955), photographer, creator, teacher, essayist, exhibition curator and historian. Fontcuberta is the author of a dozen history books and essays on photography such as El beso de Judas. Photography and Truth (1997), Science and Friction (1998), Pandora's Camera (2010), La furia de las imágenes (2016) or Revelations (2019); and thirty monographs have been published on his creative work. His work has been exhibited in museums around the world such as MoMA in New York, Art Institute in Chicago, IVAM in Valencia, FOAM in Amsterdam, MEP in Paris or Science Museum in London and has been acquired by numerous col· public lessons Among others, in 2013 he received the International Hasselblad Award and in 2022 the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Université Paris VIII.

There are many foci of interest in his studies and creations and, with deception, Fontcuberta has worked on several projects – also lying, falsehood or imposture – and he has extracted as much juice as he could. In his interview, he talks about fraud and deception through the series Herbarium, Fauna (where he gives us a cat for a hare) and Karelia; and also from the Ça-a-éte essay.
