"Life in emergency" at the Sorigué Foundation

The word emergency brings us closer to two concepts; on the one hand, to a dangerous situation that requires immediate action, and on the other, to what is born, that emerges. Life in emergency. Juan Zamora is the result of the sum of the two meanings of the term: a cry of warning about the current environmental crisis, but also a resurgence of life from the collective. The exhibition, which can be visited at the Sorigué Foundation until December 17, studies life from the intersection between science and art.

The proposal originates from the work Soplanto una flor, from the collection of the Fundació Sorigué, which begins a process of knowledge that will lead the artist to analyze the human being collectively. This process has led him to deal with existential and everyday issues, such as life, death or love, often starting from common experiences, some from his own biography. Through drawings, animations or video projections, the author presents living works that evoke the cycles of nature and its constant processes of transformation, with an introspective and personal character. However, the exhibition is offered as an experiential experience that allows you to feel life inside the museum, and the viewer is able to perceive its essence, to leave behind the times of museum frivolity. This involves a journey between the strength and fragility of nature that allows reflection and connection with the essence of living bodies.

Zamora develops the common need to understand life, through artistic creation, perceived as an automatic, meticulous and almost scientific act. He often investigates complex concepts from simple, primary and gestural forms; on other occasions, his technique becomes complex, making perception doubt and mixing imagination with reality. Biology acts as a starting point to give way to a poetic perspective that embodies universal themes. The product of their actions confronts the viewer, a member of the social community, with the urgent need for action.

Life in emergency. Juan Zamora represents a continuation of the Sorigué Foundation's discursive line around reflection on current environmental and social problems through contemporary art. He already did it with the exhibitions of the artists Mat Collishaw and Armin Linke, in Madrid and Lleida. On this occasion, the exhibition alludes directly to themes linked to environmental and social sustainability; biodiversity in danger of extinction due to anthropogenic action or environmental pollution and green energies.
