Es Baluard Contemporary Art Museum of Palma inaugurates "Camins d'horabaixa". Initiation to the forest", an exhibition by Álvaro Perdices curated by Horacio Fernández, which can be visited until October 1st in Space D of the museum.
"Early morning walks. Initiation to the forest" is a site-specific installation that starts from a set of photographs taken during a few weeks of volunteering at the Ses Milanes forest school (Bunyola, Mallorca) in the summer of 2020.
The project is presented as a clearing in the forest, as a place of learning, of revelation. The children of Ses Milanes are present, they live in the clearing, but they do not show themselves. The installation appeals to the memory of the viewer, who was also a child and at school enjoyed the playground more than the classroom. There are latent and invisible presences that are easy to imagine and feel. The images, the forest, take over the walls of the exhibition hall, occupying the space, integrating the viewer.
The exhibition is completed with an additional piece, called Genealogy made up of a sequence of images, historical documentation of the forest schools in Spain and other countries, as well as some projects in which the artist is immersed.
Horacio Fernández, curator of the exhibition explains that "with the built space it is about suggesting the surprise of the clearing in the forest. The exhibition is intended to momentarily take the viewer out of the museum. And even one more step: let an instant emerge from everyday and urban experience. During these hot months maybe it's a breath of fresh air. Just a space that surrounds the viewer, a clearing where the visitor is invited to stop and remain in suspense".
