The Board of Trustees of the Antoni Tàpies Foundation has appointed Imma Prieto as the new director of the institution for the next 5 years, after winning an international competition called in September 2022. Prieto (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1976) is curator, researcher and writer His addition covers the management position that had been vacant since January 2020, when the previous director, Carles Guerra, left. During this period, management tasks have been assumed by the management team of the institution. The incorporation of Prieto occurs in the year in which the institution will begin, in December, the commemoration of the centenary of the artist's birth.
In the last 4 years, Prieto has been the director of Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art in Palma, where she has done more than 30 exhibitions and a play with the American creator Robert Wilson, among others.
Throughout her career as a curator, she has worked with artists such as Jimmie Durham, Martha Rosler, Maria Lai, Anri Sala, Ana Vieira, Yto Bararda, Banu Cennetoglu, Hiwa K oTeresa Margolles. He has also taught for more than 11 years at different Catalan universities and has collaborated in several international research groups.
For the international competition called, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies has counted on a commission of experts formed by María Dolores Jiménez Blanco and the members of the board of trustees Ferran Rodés, Manuel Borja-Villel, Toni Tàpies, Àlex Nogueras, Marta Clari and Sònia Hernández Almodóvar.
In its assessment, the commission has taken into account that his profile brings together a wide knowledge of Tàpies' work and his experience in the international arena. He also highlighted the future project that Prieto has presented for the foundation, which he describes as a "thought-out, ambitious and innovative" proposal.
