Banjo architect Josep Miàs has won one of the international Architizer A+ Awards with the Cuca de Llum, the funicular in the Tibidabo amusement park. The work of Miàs, one of the Catalan architects with the most international resonance, has been recognized as the best sustainable transport project in the eleventh edition of the Architizer online architecture platform awards.
The awards, which have awards chosen by a professional jury and others chosen in a popular voting process, recognize projects in the field of architecture, design and innovation. For the first time, in this edition they also recognize means of transport that incorporate sustainable systems and materials and that follow the best practices related to design, construction and ethical operations.
La Cuca de Llum, created by the architect Josep Miàs, has won in the "Sustainable transport project" category, which premieres for the first time at the competition to recognize, among other aspects, means of transport that incorporate systems and sustainable materials and follow best practices related to ethical design, construction and operations.
The innovative design of the Tibidabo funicular has been victorious over the "One Green Mile" urban planning project in Mumbai, designed by the Studio POD agency, and the "Vendôme multimodal hub" interchange made by the Bisson Fortin and Provencher studio for the metro in Montreal, Canada.
The Cuca de Llum was inaugurated in the summer of 2021 to replace the historic funicular, in operation since 1901. Its launch represented a revolution in the Park's mobility, and responded to the objective of reducing pollutant emissions at the top of the mountain and promote the use of the State's collective transport.
