Presentation of the XVIII Edition of the Inund'Art Festival
bonart girona - 25/05/23

On May 23 at 10:30 a.m., the 18th edition of the Girona Inund'Art Festival was presented at the Casa de la Cultura. The event was attended by Albert Piñeira, vice-president responsible for the Area of Culture, Education, New Technologies, Sports and Welfare of the Diputació de Girona, Albert Johé, director of the Casa de la Cultura de Girona, Josep Calatayud, Director of Territorial Services of Culture of Girona, Amadeu Breva, territorial coordinator of Girona Youth and Raquel Moron, coordinator of Inund'Art.

This year, as a novelty, the festival is committed to the creation of community art projects in the neighborhoods of the city of Girona and to hybrid proposals that incorporate sound art, and continues to work and expand the offer of sensitive tours and visual arts.

In its majority, the festival emphasizes artistic projects of social transformation in collaboration with the civic centers of the city of Girona.

Inund'Art is positioned as a benchmark visual arts exhibition that advocates art and creativity as engines of culture and development in the city of Girona.

31 artists and 31 proposals

During the coming months of June and July, a total of 31 artists will present themselves with 31 proposals; a selection of participants from the open call where more than 200 projects were presented in the contemporary visual arts sector. With a more ambitious program than ever, Inund'Art presents a series of cultural and artistic activities that will transform the streets and cultural spaces of Girona into a space for exhibition and creation.

The festival will be located in locations in the center of Girona such as Rambla de la Llibertat, Punt de Trobada, Plaça de la Volta d'en Rosés and also in various cultural facilities in the city such as the Casa de Cultura , Barri Vell Civic Centre, the Valvi Foundation and the Girona History Museum (Carbonera, Cisterna and the Air-raid Shelter). Another important new feature of the festival is its commitment to community projects. This year, however, the added counterpoint is that neighbors from different neighborhoods of the city are getting involved. According to sources from the organization "Inund'Art seeks to encourage the active participation of citizens in the creation of artistic works that reflect the cultural diversity of Girona. Thus, the festival becomes a space for dialogue and reflection".

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to enjoy three hybrid proposals that combine sound art, visual art and performance. On the one hand, through radio art and sound experimentation, 25HOMBRES present the sound, visual and performance art proposal, Amarga Introductió al Caos. The command that presents the work reflects on the idea of destabilization, attack and mockery in relation to control systems.

On the other hand, the artists C escsiderai Raquel Moron present, SOS (Subjecte d'Obsolescència Silent), a sound cartography of the Old Quarter of Girona composed of scraps of memory and nostalgia, criticism and hope of the neighbors of 'a neighborhood hit hard by gentrification.

This community art project is carried out jointly with the Barri Vell-Mercadal Civic Centre, the Association of Neighbors and Residents of the Old Barri, the Plataforma plus barri minus tourist flats, the Gironès PAH and the residents of the Old Barri.
In the same community discipline, it will also be possible to view an artistic mediation project between women born and women newly arrived in Girona. Hidden Histories by Petra Vlasman and Marie-Noëlle Marange has worked, together with the Pla de Palau Civic Centre, to build bridges to connect beyond language barriers in order to promote integration and social inclusion.

This year five sensory proposals are presented, such as the one offered by Las Miradas Compartidas with their work Viatge a Kokoro.

The artist-in-residence of Inund'Art in collaboration with the Bòlit, Center of Contemporary Art, has been Melina Peña who proposes an interdisciplinary tour where the visitor's body is proposed to travel towards a sound and visual experience .
In the same vein, the Valvi Foundation will host Margherita Isola's proposal on June 3, which presents "Contact Drawings", an experience to be shared with a single visitor at a time.

Also, during the weekend, at the Sant Feliu hill, the proposal of the Research Students of the Diploma in Sensory Language and the Poetics of Play (University of Girona) and the Teatro de los Sentidos, "La Cinquena Pell", will be placed.

During the 3rd and 4th of June, installations, performances and interventions such as the one suggested by the artist Edgar Massegú, with the REDLINERAMBLEFREEROUND installation, can also be found in the streets of the city of Girona.

The installation with recycled fabrics, Man and Nomadic Peoples, by the artist Núria Duran, also works with this artistic modality, which is made as an interactive piece that invites you to breathe and dialogue between the inside and the outside.

One of the installations that will have more of a presence at the contemporary art show is the one that can be seen on June 3 and 4 at the Rambla de la Llibertat Meeting Point. Torrent Pagès will exhibit WATERMOON, the World of Water.

In the same artistic line, other proposals can be enjoyed on bridges, squares and streets of the city such as that of Biel Llinàs, El Pont, la casa i el riu, or Antillach x Zantop, 7, gotaAgota, with a participatory performance on Saturday 3 of June at Pont de Sant Agustí and the habitable sensorial poetic installation Sensory Experiences Research, Cards Without Destí.

Collective exhibition at Casa Cultura

On June 2, at 6:00 p.m., the exhibitions will be inaugurated at the Casa de Cultura de Girona, where a total of 9 visual arts artists will participate in a collective exhibition. You can see the works and audiovisual installations of the artists: Alba Domingo, Beatriz Aisa, Elena Garrigolas, Kerstin Hintz, Laia Albert, Marta Garcia, Mireia Tysoe, Les Jolies Minutes and Maria Mercader.

The work of Les Jolies Minutes, winner of the Art Per Tot Project (a project in collaboration between Inund'Art, the Balearic Institute of Youth and the Département des Pyrénées-Orientales), stands out.

Also, the presentation of the work selected through the Special Mention Project, by Elena Garrigolas with Mi mamá me mima, promoted by the Territorial Coordination of Youth of the Generalitat de Catalunya de Girona and which involves the realization of an exhibition touring the Museum of the Mediterranean in Torroella de Montgrí, the Sala d'Art Jove in Barcelona and Ca l'Anita in Roses.

The Festival also presents as a novelty the new project entitled Submarí, which bets that young people between 16 and 22 years old (participants or not of the festival) can see the insides of an art festival. In this sense, it is proposed that their collaboration be linked during the first weekend of June, so that they can work together with the artists of the festival.

In addition, as every year, you can enjoy the works created by IES Sobrequés, the Municipal School of Art (EMA) and the proposals of the students of the photography and illustration courses of the School of Art of Olot. On the other hand, the students of IES Jaume Vicens Vives together with the artist Isadora Wilson will present "Multiretrat" at the festival.

The Festival will take place from June 3 to July 20, 2023.
